Chung Wah ends academic year

THE Chung Wah School has ended its academic year in a prize giving and concert programme at the school hall last Friday.

The closing ceremony was witnessed by both students and their parents.

The event kicked off with welcome speeches from student representatives, Theodora Fasi and Tio’on Sikua speaking in English and Mandarin respectively before a stirring speech from School Principal, Anne Thomas.

2016 has been a competitive academic year for the school as highlighted in the programme with many students scooping top prizes from years 8 to Junior year one.

Year 8 student, Vapouli Manuopangai was awarded a dux student— a feat achieved for topping English, Maths, Social studies and Science while Zarah Rahii in year 7 claimed dux for her top grades in Social studies, Science and Business.

From the junior level to year six, prizes were given according to academic achievements, special demonstration of leadership and voluntary work done by individual students.

Thus in this category, 25 students were awarded with prizes according to subjects— first prize, runner-up and second runner-up, referred to as most improved students.

Interestingly most of the prizes were scooped by girls.

School Principal, Anne Thomas in her keynote remarks encouraged the students to continue work hard academically.

“Try new things and unearth the talents—remember the elevating road to success is out of order, you have to take the skills one step at a time,” Ms Thomas said.


With that Ms Thomas acknowledged sponsors, supporters and parents for their continuous back-up over the years with Chung Wah which has reached another milestone in the graduation.
